The First Weeks of First Grade
Over the past couple of weeks fifty bright and eager children have taken the big leap from preschool into their first year of elementary school. Classes 1A and 1B are made up of several new students and lots of returning TES pupils. The children have blended well, and now we have fifty familiar faces. Everyone has been learning that first grade comes with many new rights and alongside those, many new responsibilites. The groups are adjusting to their days of having different subjects, changing classrooms, and studying back and forth in two languages. The children are going through and helping establish our school rules in the various settings they find themselves in: the cafeteria, the gym, the playground and the hallways -- in addition to the classroom. The students have been brave and are embracing their more grown-up schedules. They are learning so much, and to see their development is really fun!
Divine Service at Meilahti Church
On Friday was the first Divine Service of the year. First and second graders walked to the church with their kummis. It was also the first gathering of the Valimotie and Mäntytie pupils. The theme was starting the school year and the different stages of maturing as a student. We also heard the high school choir and teacher Timo Holmström play the guitar. Some of the students participated in an alternative program at the school.
