On Friday December 1st we celebrated Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence at The English School. We started the celebration by raising the flag outside and pupils performing two Suomi 100-songs.
During the course of the evening, pupils had program also in their own classrooms. These were Finland-quiz, Show and tell, learning about Finland’s history, traditional Finnish games and reading Canine Kalevala to mention a few.
Festive three course dinner was hosted by the 6th graders. The school cafeteria was beautifully decorated and lit with electronic candles.
Later in the evening, we all enjoyed independence day dances in the gym. We were honored to get Arbis Sinfonietta- orchestra play for us, and the pupils danced walz, cha-cha, foxtrot and tango in the gym.
At the end of the evening there was surpise program outside; Tulikansa-fire performance. Overall a very memorable and wonderful evening. Thank you all organizers and participants!
