This winter has been an exciting time for debate at The English School. On January 21-22, the team of Tonyah Iivonen, Amalia Niemi, Kim-Kristian Seppälä and Nicholas Shenshin competed at the national competition in Tampere. They had a strong showing, placing seventh and hanging in there with the top finishers. Matias Sievänen and Niklas Suominen attended as observers and helped with coaching. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the experience. We all learned a whole lot. Tonyah Iivonen was awarded sixth place overall for her individual speaking skills, and she and teacher Kelly Helin were awarded stipends to attend the World Schools Debate Academy in Slovenia in June.
